What are typical complications associated with a Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE)?

Uterine fibroid embolization is a very safe procedure and involves minimal risk. Dr. Linda Hughes, M.D., gives the details:

“Complications of the uterine artery embolization procedure are extremely rare. Typically though, they include infection, which can happen with any procedure, as well as there’s an approximate 2% incidence of premature ovarian failure or early menopause. If that happens, we usually counsel patients for them to work with their gynecologist in terms of hormone replacement if that’s appropriate.”
